Dentist Lance Rygg

On a typically cold winter night in the heart of Minnesota, Lance Rygg’s Brown’s Ice Cream team found itself squared off against Ken Davis’ Brines Meat Market team. Little did the two know that this Broom Ball game would be the first meeting of bigger things to come.

Lance Rygg went on to serve his country by joining the Navy and proceeded through their Dental Program. After Dental School and his service, Dr. Rygg practiced throughout California. Eventually he became a family man and took time off from dentistry to spend valuable time with loved ones, enjoying life and traveling extensively with his family.

All the while, Pacific Dental Services took roots and began to grow rapidly. Seeking to expand to the San Diego area, Ken Davis, Vice President of Development and Acquisitions, sought an ideal owner doctor for this new region. Mr. Davis knew the perfect candidate.

Dr. Rygg delighted in the opportunity that PDS provided. It was the perfect system for a man who valued his family so deeply, as he could practice dentistry with a balanced lifestyle committed to his family. He was also elated at the opportunity to practice with state-of-the-art technology that PDS is committed to using. Dr Rygg says, “I was like a kid with a bunch of new toys.”

The amazing thing about Dr. Rygg is that this enthusiasm has not changed a bit. The excitement he brings to his offices each day is truly unbelievable. “When you have energy and enthusiasm, patients pick up on it. It changes the whole dental experience.” In addition, anyone who works in his offices will sing the same praises. His enthusiasm is contagious throughout.

Dr. Rygg finds himself at the southern tip of Pacific Dental Services’ coverage area with his Santee, Poway and San Diego offices. But this is right where Dr. Rygg wants to be. He sees it as a great opportunity. “It's like being a frontier, an outpost. We get to build up the area and attract better players for the team,” states Dr. Rygg.

The right players are crucial to the recent growth seen in Dr. Rygg’s offices. He has great teams in place and amazing associate doctors with incredible talent. He enjoys mentoring younger dentists and cross training all his staff. Dr. Rygg loves to be active in his offices.

Systems are in place at his offices and they are implementing the PDS culture and method of operations. Dr. Rygg adds, "It is a change from the old ways. It is easier to handle owning and running an office in the PDS system." Opportunities seem endless in the PDS system and Dr. Rygg’s offices share this excitement, as he explains, "PDS offers opportunities to grow. It’s not just a job, it’s a career path!"

The Santee office has really grown in recent months and Dr. Rygg accredits it to each team member getting on board in their commitment to providing the Perfect Patient Experience®. Everyone feeds off the enthusiasm in the office and is willing to help out wherever needed.

As Carol Garner, office manager, will tell you, “It’s not just a team, it’s a family. There is excitement in the office.” And like a family, they struggled together in the beginning, but persevered to success. “On slow days we did training and practiced through role playing,” claims Garner. As they placed the right people on the team, built strong communication and continued to receive support from PDS, everything just clicked. Garner describes, “You could feel it; everyone was suddenly on the same page.”
